Mitzi
Ames started playing organ for her hometown church (St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, Strasburg, Virginia) in 7th grade. She also filled in at other
hometown churches — Presbyterian, Christian, Methodist etc..
Mitzi came
from a musical family. Her mother played piano and was in high school
band. Her two sisters played piano as well as various other instruments
(violin, viola, cello). On a funny note, her maiden name is Music. Mitzi
attended Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music (now called
Shenandoah University), majoring in Church Music, minor in Piano and
Classical Guitar.
She moved
from Connecticut to Granbury in 1989 and met members of Emmanuel in
1999. She started playing for the Emmanuel choir a time later and the
rest is history. Mitzi has four sons: Timothy Vann, 24, US Marine;
Joshua Vann, 22, US Marine; Christopher Vann, 20, US Navy; and Cody
Ames, 14.
